History
The land around College Station was settled in the 1830s and 1840s, and much of the region was used for farming and ranching. The fertile land made the area attractive to settlers who raised cattle, cotton, and corn.
College Station’s history is closely linked to the establishment of Texas A&M University. The town began to develop in the late 19th century, but its true growth was tied to the founding of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, which would later become Texas A&M University. In 1871, the Texas legislature passed a bill to establish the school, and in 1876, the school officially opened its doors.

Both World War I and World War II had a significant impact on College Station. During the wars, Texas A&M played a critical role in training military officers and personnel. The university became a key institution for military preparation, and many students enlisted during the wars. The campus saw military expansion and training, which further cemented the university’s role in the nation's defense efforts.
